The Junior Achievement Company of the Year competition 2013

The Junior Achievement Company of the Year competition is about starting up a company by issuing shares to capitalize and expanding its size through business operations. The starting up of the company has allowed me to gain a large amount of knowledge and how they can be applied to real world scenario. The different functionalities of each department were also very important as we learnt how we to integrate the different functions from the various departments together to maximize utilization of resources and efficiency. The preparation made for the Singapore Junior Achievement Company of the Year Finals has taught us how to be more professional, how important teamwork is, and how we are expected to sell our products to our customers. When we were announced as the Champions in the national league, we were all very happy and satisfied as we all felt that our efforts were being recognized. The competition also taught us that the formation of a team is very important as the characters that are within it all plays an important part in helping the team to win. It is essential for a team to have multi-skills and an idealist. I am more of an idealist, and I am glad that my team comprises of people that possess different skill-sets. However, the international competition was very different because the competitors that we faced there were all very strong representatives of their own country. We felt like a mediocre team as each of the team there all had their own strong and unique point and it made us truly ponder on what the strong and unique point of our team was. We were reminded that our unique point has always been with us since day one. We are doing everything for a Social cause. Even though we didn’t win the competition on the international level, it has really brought us many experiences that will be very valuable to us even in years to come. One key insight from this international level competition would be the realization that different countries face different problems. It is how we are able to fully leverage on these problems by creating solutions that may be better than what the industry can provide. With that being said, I want to truly thank Junior Achievement Singapore for giving students from Temasek Polytechnic, School of Informatics & IT an opportunity to take part in this glorious and enriching event! It has been a wonderful, memorable and valuable journey for aWear, for us.
