Building Robot Cars Through Our Creativity and Programming Skills

Cheryl Tan Wei Ying and Emily Phang Shi Hui who recently graduated in May from the Diploma in Financial Business Informatics led their teams in building their Robotic Cars by applying their programming skills and using the Aruduino electronics prototyping platform. This initiative by IDA to expose students to technologies and building Singapore towards a Smart Nation has inculcated within the students a culture of creating and building.

As leaders of their teams, Cheryl Tan and Emily Phang represented their teammates in presenting their Robotic Cars to foreign delegates at the 10^th Annual Ministerial Forum on ICT Welcome Dinner organised by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) on 16^th June 2014.

Winners of the SMU InnovateIT Business Technology Case Challenge 2014

On 26th April 2014, team “Triple Hits”, consisting three Junior students, Eilson Tang Wen Hao, Ma Jiamin and Divya Danesh Khemlani from the Diploma in Financial Business Informatics represented Temasek Polytechnic School of Informatics & IT and emerged 2nd Runner Up in the SMU InnovateIT Business Technology Case Challenge 2014.

 

InnovateIT is an IT business case, island-wide competition organised by the School of Information Systems, Singapore Management University. It aims at promoting the use of IT to improve business value, in a fun and engaging manner and to inspire students to invest their innovative ideas in the field of IT.  

 

This year, students spent a month to conceptualise innovative, feasible and financially- sustainable solution using information technology to create Smart Communities with the aim to enhance liveability of Singaporean’s life in 2030. Team Triple Hits’ innovation, titled “HeartBeat”, uses IT to improve lives of the aged family members and to foster closer bonding among neighbours.

Junior Achievement Company Of The Year Competition

Asher Lim Zhi Rong, Brandon Tong Jia Xin, John Low Kah Yong, and Tan Jing Yi, under the mentorship of Lecturer, Mr Alfred Teng, represented their company Take 2, which was set up by a team of 20 students to emerge champions in the Singapore final of the Junior Achievement Company of the Year (JA COY) Competition 2014 held on Saturday, 18th January 2014.

This competition stresses the spirit of entrepreneurship in a competitive environment, teamwork, business operations and social innovation. The team was required to complete a company report, set up a trade booth, produce a video, and present their company’s performance. The company which the team set up, had collaborated a rehabilitation centre for youths-at-risk, to provide job opportunities and to impart skills.
